About the Therapist
Melany
She/Her
MA, LPC, LCMHC, CST
Welcome! I’m Melany, the founder of Soul Space Clinical Therapy. I’m a Licensed Professional Counselor in South Carolina and a Licensed Clinical Mental Health Counselor in North Carolina, with a Bachelor’s in Experimental Psychology from the University of South Carolina and a Master’s in Clinical Counseling from The Citadel.
I’ve had the privilege of working with people from all walks of life, in settings ranging from inpatient psychiatric hospitals to outpatient clinics. Before starting Soul Space, I worked at an integrative wellness clinic, where I saw firsthand how closely our mental and physical well-being are connected. I’ve also been fortunate to receive training and mentorship from leaders in psychology, including Dr. Anne Marie Albano, a pioneer in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, and Dr. Steven Hayes, co-founder of Acceptance and Commitment Therapy.
My passion is supporting people dealing with anxiety, depression, and challenges related to sexuality, gender, and relationships. I am an AASECT Certified Sex Therapist with extensive training in sexuality. I can help with everything from navigating sexual concerns to exploring relationship orientations or easing sex-related anxiety. My approach embraces the whole person—mind, body, and soul—because I believe each aspect plays a vital role in our well-being.
As a therapist, I strive to meet you where you are, offering compassion, perspective, and space for growth. I’m pretty laid-back and encourage you to bring your “unfiltered” self to sessions. My therapy room is a space where you can let go of the pressures of the outside world. My mission is to help you create a life that feels free, fulfilling, and deeply aligned with who you are.
Outside of the therapy world, you’ll often find me weightlifting, enjoying the outdoors, laughing, and doing my best to keep my houseplants alive. I also have two fur-children who keep me on my toes.
My Journey
Yes, I am a therapist. But like everyone else, I am also human and have experienced my own struggles. Growing up in a culture where mental health was highly stigmatized and taboo to talk about, I remember wondering if other people felt similar inner obstacles. This drew me to the psychology field because I wanted to focus on the pain we can’t really see.
When we have a broken arm, other people can see it, we can see it, and a doctor can “fix it.“ Mental health experiences are different. Mental health struggles are what I consider the “unseen pain.“ We can look across the street and see a person who seems well on the surface but may be struggling unimaginably on the inside. Although mental health can be complex, it is necessary to find help and not struggle alone.
I decided to dedicate my purpose to removing mental and sexual health stigmas while helping people heal from the inside pain keeping them from living the life they want. I have seen therapy work firsthand personally and professionally. I’ve had the privilege of watching my clients develop new and empowering relationships with themselves.
My approach as a therapist is very collaborative, direct, and active. I believe that growth begins in the therapy room and we work together as a team when it comes to your treatment plan.
I believe that our identifiers are extremely important and are the foundation of our beings. I am an LGBTQIA+ ally and strive to be affirming for people of color, immigrants, people with disabilities, sexual and gender minorities, and religious minorities. I am here to provide a safe and comfortable space for people who have felt unseen and with various backgrounds. I commit to continue educating myself on identifiers and experiences I do not hold in order to be a better therapist, business owner, and human. My goal is for Soul Space to be a place of inclusivity, equity, diversity, and belonging for all.

“Go to the edge,“ the voice said.
“No!“ they said. “We will fall.“
“Go to the edge,“ the voice said.
“No!“ they said. “We will be pushed over.“
“Go to the edge,“ the voice said.
So they went
and they were pushed
and they flew.
